Scott City gains new police chief

SCOTT CITY, Mo. (KBSI) – Scott City gains a new police chief.

Chris Griggs stepped up for former Chief Rick Walter who recently retired.

Christopher Griggs was named Chief on September 5, 2023.

Griggs worked for Scott City in the 90s and was the police chief of Minor for about 10 years before coming back to be captain at the Scott City Police Department and he says they need more officers to efficiently protect the community.  

“We are in the process of hiring two additional officers, that’s important because we’re trying to add adequate law enforcement to this community. When someone needs law enforcement in this community it’s my intention to provide them with ethical professional police officers.”  Says Griggs. 

Rick Walter served as Scott Citys Chief for just 18 months before retiring.
