SCOTT CITY, Mo., (KBSI)-Scott City Police Department says someone called them to notify of a possible scam.

The caller notified them that someone contacted him posing as a “Scott City Investigations Officer”.

A name was not given but the reporting party stated the caller had a foreign accent.

Scams recently have been reported where people are “spoofing” numbers of legitimate law enforcement agencies.

If someone claiming to be a police officer calls you and asks for your personal information or any kind of financial information, don’t be afraid to hang up and call your local law enforcement agency.

Scott City police will be able to help determine if the request was legitimate.
