CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The Scott County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, assisted the U.S. Marshals Service on Tuesday with executing an arrest warrant in Benton, Missouri.
The operation occurred at 98 Mauna Kaui and involved Andrew Hanks, 32, of Benton and Cape Girardeau. Hanks was wanted on multiple outstanding Cape Girardeau County warrants.
Because Hanks had reportedly made prior threats to harm citizens and law enforcement if apprehended again, agencies conducted enhanced planning and deployed additional resources to ensure public and officer safety.
Authorities said Hanks refused several commands issued over a loudspeaker to exit the residence. The Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office SERT team then breached the home and began clearing it. After officers deployed multiple distraction devices and chemical agents, Hanks extended his hands out of a window before jumping to the ground, where he was taken into custody without further incident.
Hanks faces several charges, including:
- Stealing a motor vehicle, watercraft or aircraft (Felony D), RSMo 570.030
- Aggravated fleeing a stop or detention (Felony D), RSMo 575.151
- Unlawful possession of a firearm (Felony C), RSMo 571.070 (Cape Girardeau Police Department case)
The warrant was executed by the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service and support from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and MSHP.
“We appreciate the professionalism and partnership of the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol in safely bringing this matter to a resolution,” the Scott County Sheriff’s Office said. “Their efforts helped ensure this individual was taken into custody and removed from our community.”
