SCOTT COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — A Scott County sheriff’s deputy and a bystander helped save a man experiencing a suspected overdose early Monday morning.

According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Scott City police officers were responding to another call when dispatchers received a report of a possible overdose Oct. 12.

A Scott County deputy who was nearby heard the emergency call and responded to assist.

When the deputy arrived, he found an unconscious man and administered one dose of Narcan, a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses.

Authorities say a bystander had already administered one dose of Narcan before the deputy arrived.

The man regained consciousness and was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

Scott County Sheriff Derick Wheetley praised the deputy and bystander for their quick actions.

“Their quick thinking, training, and willingness to act made a difference in someone’s life,” Wheetley said.

The sheriff’s office credited both individuals with helping save the man’s life.
