SCOTT COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) – The Scott County Sheriff’s Office says its investigation into the death of a 35-year-old Sikeston woman remains active as investigators wait for forensic and digital evidence results.
Sheriff Derick Wheetley provided an update Friday, Aug. 21, on the investigation into the death of Kali Hasty.
According to the sheriff’s office, investigators continue to follow leads, conduct interviews and review information while awaiting evidence submitted to forensic laboratories for testing and analysis.
Wheetley said processing physical and digital evidence can be a detailed and time-consuming process.
Once the outstanding laboratory and digital evidence results are returned, investigators will review the findings and determine the next steps in the investigation.
“Investigators have only one opportunity to conduct this investigation properly and build an accurate, complete case,” Wheetley said. “That requires patience, attention to detail, and allowing the evidence not speculation to guide the investigation.”
The sheriff’s office said additional information will be released when it can be made public without jeopardizing the investigation.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about Hasty’s death or anyone who observed suspicious activity along County Highway 529 near Sikeston during the early morning hours of Saturday, July 25, to contact the Scott County Sheriff’s Office at 573-545-3525.
