Scott County Sheriff’s Office warns of phone scam

SCOTT COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – The Scott County Sheriff’s Office is alerting people of a scam going around.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office says they continue to receive calls of people explaining that they are receiving scam calls.
Individuals are being told there are active warrants for their arrest, and they need to pay by purchasing gift cards and giving the “deputy” the number off these gift cards over the phone.
If that doesn’t work, they are asking for bitcoin.
The Sheriff’s Office says their deputies will not contact you via phone to inform you of any warrant.
The individual is naming himself as “Deputy Josh Betson”.
The Sheriff’s Office says there is no Deputy Betson employed at their agency.
Scott County Sheriff’s Office goes on to say if you are on the receiving end of these phone calls do not purchase any cards or send any type of funds to these making the calls.
Contact their office and make them aware of the phone call and they remind people that their agency would never contact you by phone to inform you if you had an active warrant.
