Search underway for escaped Scott County inmate in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — UPDATE NOW: The suspect has been taken into custody.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are searching for an escaped Scott County inmate.

Cape Girardeau Patrolman Bobby Newton confirmed the inmate escaped while at Saint Francis Medical Center and that Cape Girardeau police are assisting with the search.

Officers and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers have been positioned along South Silver Springs Road and Mount Auburn Road. Drivers should avoid the area while the search continues.
