Search warrants executed in Mt. Vernon and Wayne City as part of ongoing investigation

MT. VERNON, Ill., (KBSI) — Authorities executed search warrants in Mt. Vernon and Wayne City as part of an ongoing investigation into a July 27 shooting.

The Mt. Vernon Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office High Risk Team, and Illinois State Police conducted a search warrant in the 700 block of South 18th Street in Mt. Vernon.

A separate search warrant was executed on Lappen Avenue in Wayne City, involving the Mt. Vernon Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, and US Marshals.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are seeking information about the shooting. A $2,500 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest. Tips can be reported to the Mt. Vernon Police Department, Crime Stoppers.
