Search yields no evidence in Cheryl Anne Scherer case, investigation continues

SCOTT COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — Authorities say a recent excavation connected to the long-running search for Cheryl Anne Scherer has concluded without locating evidence.
Sheriff Derick Wheetley said investigators spent several weeks searching an area off County Road 305, also known as Bell’s Crossing, after eight different cadaver dogs alerted to specific locations at the site.
The area was considered a promising lead because of its proximity to the gas station where Scherer worked and because it was rural at the time of her disappearance, Wheetley said.
Investigators conducted a detailed and methodical search of the locations identified by the dogs.
The work was slowed by frozen and extremely wet ground conditions, according to the sheriff.
Despite the alerts, no evidence was located during the excavation.
Wheetley said the investigation remains active and that two assigned investigators continue to review past information and pursue new leads. Authorities remain in regular contact with the Scherer family.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Scott County Sheriff’s Office at 573-545-3525 or submit a tip through the department’s website.
Officials said they remain committed to finding answers in the case.
