Second arrest made in connection with fatal Scott County shooting

SCOTT COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — A second suspect has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Scott County earlier this month, according to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said James Lee Nance, 42, of Sikeston, was taken into custody and is charged with first-degree murder and hindering prosecution. He is being held at the Scott County Jail on a no-bond hold pending formal charges.

The arrest is tied to the March 19 death of John Ralph Jr.

Previously, deputies arrested Austin J. Nance, 23, of Sikeston, in connection with the same investigation. He is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.

Deputies responded to the shooting March 19 and found an adult male with a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a hospital, where he later died. Authorities have since identified the victim as John Ralph Jr.

The investigation remains active, and officials said no additional information is being released at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
