Section of Route 3 in Alexander County all lanes open

ALEXANDER COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) — UPDATE: All lanes are open.

A section of Route 3 in Alexander County is closed Wednesday morning due to a semi’s oversized load breakdown.

The Illinois State Police are detouring traffic in the McClure area. Southbound drivers on Rte. 3 are being rerouted onto Rhymer Road, then Grapevine Trail, rejoining Rte. 3 at the McClure intersection.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution on Rhymer Road due to numerous potholes.

According to ISP, the semi’s load broke down around 10:22 p.m. Tuesday, just north of McClure. The duration of the detour is unclear.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
