SEMO Health Sciences students gain real-world experience
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Students in Southeast Missouri State University’s health sciences and athletic training programs are gaining hands-on experience through clinical rotations and internships, leading to job offers and graduate school acceptances.
The university’s partnership with Mercy Hospital Southeast provides students with access to cutting-edge diagnostic tools and the opportunity to work alongside experienced sports medicine physicians.
“We want our students working with real patients in real-world settings as soon as possible,” said Dr. Kyle Schneider, associate professor and program director of athletic training/health sciences. “Our students complete six different clinical rotations during their time in the program.”
The university’s new Roy Blunt Health Professions Hall will feature high-tech spaces, including a medical assessment lab and diagnostic testing center, providing students with even more opportunities to practice their skills.
SEMO offers a 3+2 accelerated program, allowing students to earn both their undergraduate and master’s degrees in athletic training in just five years.
The program has seen success, with students consistently accepted into top physical therapy and occupational therapy programs. Every student in the first MSAT cohort graduating in May 2025 has a job lined up or is finalizing one.
