SEMO launches scholarship program for majority of students

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Southeast Missouri State University has announced a new scholarship program that will make 85% of its students eligible for financial assistance, part of an effort to expand access to higher education and reduce barriers to earning a degree.

“At SEMO, we know that access to a college education is a critical step toward achieving dreams and building a better future,” SEMO President Brad Hodson said. “Our new scholarship program is about removing barriers, opening doors, and supporting students financially, so they can focus on what matters most: learning, growing and preparing for meaningful careers.”

The program features renewable scholarships that are automatically awarded through the admissions process, with no separate application required. It also accommodates test-optional applicants and considers super scores from ACT and SAT tests. Students may continue to renew their awards each year if they meet credit-hour and GPA requirements.

Scholarships are available based on academic performance, leadership, creative talent, athletics, financial need and geographic location.

“Making college accessible is fundamental to who we are as a university,” said Lenell Hahn, SEMO’s assistant vice president for enrollment management and admissions. “We’re proud to offer opportunities that empower students to pursue their passions and build their futures, knowing that SEMO stands beside them every step of the way.”
