CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A new partnership aims to expand childcare access and support workforce growth in southeast Missouri.
Southeast Missouri State University is working with Bootheel Progress with Partnership and a private provider to reopen a previously unused childcare facility at its Sikeston Regional Campus.
Officials said the effort follows a regional study that identified childcare as a major barrier for working families and employers.
The new facility, expected to open in early May, could serve up to 50 families and provide more reliable care options in the area.
Leaders said expanding access to childcare is key to helping more parents join or remain in the workforce while supporting economic development across the region.
