SEMO Pets receiving support from community, businesses

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – “The community support is everything to us.”

And SEMO Pets, headed by Executive Director Jenn Farmer, is getting that support.

“Out at Acee’s, out by the interstate, which is by the Sportsplex, in pump 1 and pump 2, we’re getting a percentage of gas from them,” Farmer said.

Napa Auto Tire and Parts on Kingshighway will host “Parts and Puppies Supply Drive” from July 24-29, with a mobile dog adoption event on the final day.

Farmer said this and other support comes from a lot of hard work and a cohesive effort to do what is best for the animals.

“I’m out there, you know, feet on the ground, I don’t just sit here in the office,” she said. “It’s rewarding, definitely. I love the fact of having an open-door policy here, with both our adopters as well as our staff. You don’t see my door closed very often. If you do, it’s very rare, but I like that give-and-take with everybody and everybody using what they know to help the animals the best.”

Farmer said events and programs are especially helpful during the summertime.

“It helps them get out. It helps them get adopted,” she said. “Even like our Adventure Tails program, it’s something that anyone can do. You can come and rent a dog for the day. Those are things that just help our dogs, and our cats, people volunteering, socializing, it just helps our animals socialize and get some new faces out there.”
