SEMO Redhawks athletes record 3.44 GPA for spring semester

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Student athletes at Southeast Missouri State University broke a department record with a 3.44 grade point average for the spring semester of 2024.

SEMO broke a department record with a 3.44 grade point average surpassing its previous spring mark of 3.40 in 2019.

This was the first time in SEMO’s Department of Athletics’ history where every sport finished with a 3.0 or higher GPA during the spring term.

It also makes 14-consecutive semesters where the departmental GPA has been above a 3.2.

The football and women’s cross country teams set their highest spring GPAs ever.

Football recorded a 3.18 GPA.

Women’s cross country established the highest GPA department wide with a 3.90.

Other sports include women’s tennis (3.85), women’s soccer (3.77), women’s gymnastics (3.70), men’s cross country (3.63), women’s track & field (3.58), softball (3.55), volleyball (3.51), men’s track & field (3.48), women’s basketball (3.43), baseball (3.31) and men’s basketball (3.09).

Total, 124 student-athletes posted 4.0 GPAs this spring. That includes both undergraduates and graduates.

A total of 291 out of 355 athletes earned a 3.0 or higher GPA.

One hundred twenty-one athletes made it to the Dean’s List (only for undergraduates).and 92 achieved a spot on the President’s List (only for undergraduates).

Since the spring of 2019, 10 of SEMO’s teams established semester high GPAs. Those teams include football (Spring 2024), women’s cross country (Spring 2024), baseball (Fall 2023), men’s track & field (Fall 2023), men’s cross country (Fall 2022), women’s soccer (Fall 2020), softball (Fall 2020), men’s basketball (Spring 2020), Women’s Tennis (Spring 2019) and women’s track & field (Spring 2019).
