CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Southeast Missouri State University will host its first Young Writers’ Studio this spring, offering high school students an opportunity to develop their writing skills and connect with peers.

The free program, open to students in grades 9-12, is supported in part by a grant from the Missouri Arts Council. Registration is open through March 30.

Organizers said participants will take part in hands-on workshops, including sessions focused on creative writing, revision and publishing or performance.

Students will work with published writers and educators, including poets and authors John Gallaher, Luke Rolfes and Missy Nieveen-Phegley, who will lead workshops in poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction.

The program will conclude with a public reading at 5:30 p.m. April 10 at Rose Theater, where students can share their work.

Officials said the studio aims to provide a space for students to explore creative writing and build confidence in their work.
