SEMO Womens Basketball comes up short in 75-70 loss at Dayton

DAYTON, Oh, (KBSI) – Southeast Missouri Women’s Basketball (0-1) played a hard fought first game of the year, going into half time with a buzzer beater to lead 32 to 30 at the half, but coming up short in the game losing 75 -70 to the Dayton Flyers.

Freshman guard Zoe Best had a career-high 25 points, starting out her SEMO tenure on an impressive foot.

Best shot 9-for-16 from the field, with an impressive 66-percent from three point range going 4 for 6 and went perfect at the free throw line. Best snagged seven rebounds, racking up four steals, and added an assist in her SEMO debut.

Also in double figures for the night is Kennedy Claybrooks, a junior for the Redhawks, racking up 12 points while shooting 5-for-9.  Claybrooks had a team high seven assists, playing a full 31 minutes on the court in Dayton Ohio.
As a team, SEMO had a 43.3 percent from the field (29-67) this number out doing that of Dayton’s shooting at 42.9 percent. Redhawks also had better numbers from the charity stripe with an 87.5 percentage to 63 percent for Dayton.

Dayton Flyers soured through Shantavia Dawkins, shooting 4-of-6 amounting in 12 points total in the contest.

The game opened the tenure for first year Head Coach Briley Palmer.

Looking ahead, SEMO Women’s Basketball will be back in action on Sunday, November 10. The Redhawks travel to Austin, Texas to take on #4 Texas. Tip-off for the game is set for 2 p.m. in Austin.
