SEMO’s Brad Korn named OVC Coach of the Year as Redhawks make history

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) — Southeast Missouri State men’s basketball is making history, and the accolades keep rolling in. Head coach Brad Korn has been named the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Coach of the Year after leading the Redhawks to their first-ever regular-season conference title.
Preseason polls projected SEMO to finish seventh in the OVC, but the team shattered expectations with a dominant campaign, including an undefeated February. Alongside Korn’s honor, junior guard Rob Martin and Teddy Washington Jr. earned First Team All-OVC recognition, with Washington also making the All-Newcomer Team. Forward Brandon Terry was named to the Second Team.
“The messaging, even a year ago, four years ago when we first got here, has been the same,” Korn said. “There might have been a lot more awards this year, obviously, and rightfully so. But our approach to everything that we do hasn’t really changed. This is just now the culmination of a lot of hard work that’s been put in.”
Martin, who averaged 14.5 points per game, emphasized the team’s bigger goals ahead.
“I’m just keeping the main thing the main thing,” Martin said. “The awards are good, but I’d rather cut the net on Saturday as a team.”
With the No. 1 seed in the OVC Tournament, SEMO has earned a double bye and will open postseason play Friday at the Ford Center in Evansville.
