SEMO’s president elected to AASCU Board of Directors

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Southeast Missouri State President Dr. Carlos Vargas was elected to the American Association of State Colleges and Universities’ Board of Directors.
Vargas was elected at the organization’s annual conference in Chicago. He is one of four new board members elected.
AASCU is a higher education association of 350 public colleges, universities, and systems. Members share a learning- and teaching-centered culture, a historic commitment to underserved student populations, and a dedication to research and creativitiy that advances their region’s economic progress and cultural development.
Ronald S. Rochon, president of the University of Southern Indiana was elected chair of the Board. Alisa White, president of Sam Houston State University became chair elect.
Four new members were elected to the Board:
- Houston Davis, president, University of Central Arkansas
- Nora Miller, president, Mississippi University for Women
- DeRionne Pollard, president, Nevada State University
- Carlos Vargas, president, Southeast Missouri State University
