SEMO’s Sport Management Program prepares students for thriving careers in sports industry

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – Southeast Missouri State University’s sport management program is equipping students with the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to succeed in the rapidly growing sports industry.

The program focuses on the business and administrative side of sports, offering courses in sport marketing, facility and event management, leadership, sport law, and ethics.

Students gain practical experience through internships with community organizations, collegiate athletics, and professional sports teams, including the St. Louis Cardinals and SEMO Athletics.

These internships are often paired with networking events, such as those hosted by the Indianapolis Colts and St. Louis City Soccer Club.

The program offers annual trips and tours that immerse students in the industry, including behind-the-scenes looks at major sporting events. Recent highlights include a tour of St. Louis City Soccer Club’s new stadium and College Nights with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Alumni from the program have gone on to pursue roles in athletic operations, event coordination, and marketing at Division I universities, international sport management firms, and major athletic departments nationwide.

The program hosts the annual SEMO Sport Management Conference and Networking Event, connecting students with industry professionals.

The 2025 conference will take place on April 9 in Glenn Auditorium at Dempster Hall, featuring a panel discussion and networking opportunities with industry leaders.
