Severe weather causes widespread power outages in Jackson

JACKSON, Mo., (KBSI) — A severe weather event early Friday morning caused significant damage to the city’s electrical infrastructure, resulting in a widespread power outage on the west side of town.
At approximately 12:45 a.m., strong straight-line winds sheared off two electrical poles along East Jackson Boulevard, severing a major transmission line and Distribution Circuit #17.
City electric crews responded quickly, switching transmission feeders to isolate the damaged area and restore power to most affected customers within about an hour.
Crews then worked to isolate Circuit #17, restoring service to Walmart and several other businesses along East Jackson Boulevard.
As of now, only a few utility customers remain without power in the area due to the extensive damage.
Crews will continue working to restore power as soon as possible, but the process may take some time.
Residents experiencing power outages outside of this area are advised to contact the City of Jackson Public Works department at 573-243-2300, a 24/7 hotline.
