Severe weather response team director says don’t shrug off weather warnings
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo., (KBSI) – Poplar Bluff’s severe weather response team closely monitors storms that move through the area.
Director of the Poplar Bluff severe weather response team, Craig Meador was busy Friday as he checked in with his team of storm spotters and others in the community.
When he’s keeping an eye on a storm, Meador checks a number of information sources — from a powerful radar system with access to live video feeds to various weather services, social media reports, civilian and law enforcement reports.
He’s been doing this work for many years and reminds people to have a plan in the case of severe weather. Always think ahead.
“I’ve had some friends in the past that always kind of just shrugged it off until they got in a tornado and their house got damaged,” he said, “and from that point forward they always listen to what I tell them. And they’ll call me now and say, hey what’s coming our way? And I’ll tell them.”
Every family’s emergency plan will look different. Meador said to be sure you know where you’ll meet up if you’re separated and how to stay informed about what is happening.
The live video in Poplar Bluff was recorded at 8:45 pm, Friday, March 14, 2025.
