Shawnee Community College announces passing of founder of the Mounds African American Museum

ULLIN, Ill., (KBSI) – Shawnee Community College announced the passing of Willie Eason, founder of the Mounds African American Museum and a longtime partner of the college.
Eason worked closely with Shawnee Community College for many years, lending his time, expertise and historical collections to create Black History Month and Juneteenth displays on campus.
College officials said his extensive knowledge and artifacts left a lasting impact on students, staff and the broader community.
“We extend our deepest sympathy to Mr. Eason’s family and friends,” the college said in a statement. “His contributions enriched our campus and will not be forgotten.”
