ULLIN, Ill. (KBSI) — Shawnee Community College is asking community members to help fight student hunger through its participation in the statewide Feed the Need Food Drive.

The food drive runs from Oct. 19 through Nov. 30 and will benefit Bernie’s Place, the college’s student food pantry and snack locker.

The initiative aims to provide students with access to food and essential supplies so they can focus on their education without worrying about their next meal.

Shawnee Community College is encouraging local businesses, churches, organizations and residents to donate nonperishable food and other essential items.

According to the college, SCC has ranked fifth in the state for the past two years in the Feed the Need Food Drive, thanks to community donations.

College officials hope to build on that success this year by increasing participation and collecting more supplies for students in need.

Donations will help stock Bernie’s Place and provide resources to students experiencing food insecurity.

The food drive continues through Nov. 30.
