Shawnee Mass Transit District to celebrate 25 years of service in Southern Illinois

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS, (KBSI) – Shawnee Mass Transit District will celebrate 25 years of service to Southern Illinois with an anniversary event and open house Thursday at its headquarters in Vienna.
The celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 100 Smart Drive in Vienna. Officials said the event will recognize the transit district’s growth and its role in providing transportation services across the region.
Community leaders, agency representatives, employees, partners and members of the public are invited to attend. The event will include remarks from local and regional leaders, refreshments, facility tours and information about the district’s services throughout Southern Illinois.
Scheduled speakers include Executive Director Michael Pietrowski, Board Chairman Nancy Doss, representatives from state Rep. Patrick Windhorst’s office, the Shawnee Development Council, Chamness Care Inc. and Shawnee Mass Transit District leadership.
The program begins with guest arrival and refreshments at 10 a.m., followed by official remarks at 10:30 a.m. A light lunch and open house will follow before the event concludes at 1 p.m.
“For 25 years, Shawnee Mass Transit District has remained committed to improving mobility, expanding access, and strengthening the communities we serve,” Pietrowski said in a statement.
Since its founding, the district has provided transportation services connecting residents to jobs, health care, education and other essential services across Southern Illinois.
