Shawnee Mass Transit leaders highlight Southern Illinois transit expansion in Washington

ILLINOIS (KBSI) – Shawnee Mass Transit District leaders recently traveled to Washington, D.C., to highlight expanded transportation services and their impact on rural Southern Illinois communities.
The district said its executive director and chief financial officer discussed how grant funding helped Shawnee MTD expand its service hours and days and launch Shawnee Express.
During the trip, officials presented the district’s progress and discussed how increased access to public transportation can benefit rural communities.
Shawnee MTD leaders also met with others in Washington to learn about potential funding and program opportunities that could support future transportation services.
The district said it plans to continue expanding access to safe, reliable and accessible transportation throughout Southern Illinois.
