Shelter in place order lifted for Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office warned residents of a shelter in place order after a possible hazmat situation.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office ordered a shelter in place order for a half mile radius of I64 WB 66 mp. The order affected residences on Magic Road and Huston Road in Woodlawn.
The order was made as a result of a truck carrying chemicals was involved in an accident.
The shelter in place order was cancelled at 9:57 pm on January 2.
The sheriff’s office says all Westbound lanes of I64 from Woodlawn Exit 69 to Washington County Line are closed.
Traffic going Westbound will be detoured at Woodlawn exit, South to IL HWY 15 and West to US HWY 51 North. Motorist traveling I64 Westbound from Mt. Vernon are encouraged to exit at Mt. Vernon 95 exit, travel West on IL HWY 15 to US HWY 51 then North to I64.
