Sheriff cracks down on illegal parking, trash dumping on Johnson County interstate ramps
JOHNSON COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) – Johnson County Sheriff’s Office will begin enforcing no parking laws on interstate ramps starting March 29, 2025.
The decision comes after years of complaints about garbage, urine bottles, hypodermic needles and feces being dumped on roadways.
Sheriff says inexperienced semi-drivers, some of whom don’t speak English, are contributing to the problem.
On March 29, deputies will ticket and tow drivers who refuse to move.
Volunteers are being asked to help pick up garbage on interstate ramps at 9 a.m.
The sheriff’s office will provide garbage bags, latex gloves and traffic control. The sheriff is also requesting IDOT to install “No Parking” signs on the ramps.
