Sheriff releases name of pedestrian hit, died in McCracken County

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – The McCracken County sheriff released the name of the pedestrian who was struck and died on Saturday, January 13.

Sheriff Ryan Norman says 30-year-old Daquan Harris of Oak Grove, Ky. was struck and died at the scene.

Anthony Earl Farmer, 66, of Benton, Ky. faces one felony count of leaving the scene of accident/fail to render aid with death or serious physical injury.

McCracken County sheriff’s deputies responded to Kentucky Dam Road near the intersection of Kenmar Road on Saturday, January 13 around 11 p.m. for a vehicle versus pedestrian crash.

Deputies found a man dead who had been struck by a vehicle. Based upon physical evidence on the scene, deputies alerted surrounding agencies of the suspected vehicle description.

A short time later, an officer with the Benton Police Department found a vehicle matching the description with damage consistent with the collision on West Fifth Street in Benton and conducted a traffic stop.

The McCracken County deputy sherif traveled to Benton to assist.

Deputies found the vehicle to be a 2007 Chevrolet truck driven by Anthony E. Farmer.

Upon examining the exterior of the truck, deputies saw physical evidence consistent with a recent crash.

Deputies impounded the vehicle.

Farmer was taken to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office.

When detectives interviewed Farmer they say he confessed to being involved in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Benton Police Department, Kentucky State Police, McCracken County Coroner’s Office, Mercy Regional Ambulance Service, McCracken County DES and Reidland/Farley Fire Rescue assisted the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office.
