Sheriff’s Department warns scammers posing as FEMA employees

MISSOURI(KBSI) – The Phelps County Sheriff’s Office is asking that storm victims be aware of scammers.

The Phelps County Sheriff’s Department posted on their Facebook page “We want everyone to be aware of ongoing scams targeting innocent victims. Recently, individuals posing as FEMA employees have been falsely claiming that there has been a disaster declaration and are asking for personal information.”

They urge victims not to give personal information to anyone that they are unsure of and ask for proof of identity of anyone asking for sensitive information.
