Sheriff’s office investigating reports of damaged mailboxes in Cape County

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — The Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office is investigating multiple reports of damaged mailboxes across several areas of the county.

Officials said the incidents were reported along County Roads 516 and 525, with additional reports later received from County Roads 532 and 542. Investigators believe the incidents are connected and occurred within a similar timeframe.

Authorities said the damage may have been caused by someone throwing objects from a passing vehicle.

Damaging mailboxes is considered property damage under Missouri law and may also be a federal offense.

Residents are encouraged to review any available surveillance footage and report suspicious activity to the sheriff’s office.

The investigation remains ongoing.
