Sheriff’s office reports busy week of arrests and recoveries

HARRISBURG, Ill., (KBSI) — The Saline County Sheriff’s Office says it’s been a busy few days, with deputies handling multiple major calls and recovering several stolen vehicles while assisting with community events and ongoing investigations.

Sheriff Doug Maier said that since Friday, deputies have recovered two stolen ATVs, three stolen UTVs, a stolen car, and a stolen truck, all while responding to regular calls for service across the county.

“We’ve had the Sasquatch Festival, a pursuit, a death investigation, and even a tailgate load of cannabis and more guns and ammo than we’d like to see,” Maier said. “We even enlisted a local helicopter pilot for air support — it’s been non-stop.”

The sheriff said the department has been working alongside the ATF, the Enfield Police Department, and other agencies on several cooperative investigations.

“I know it’s part of the job to keep everyone informed, but sometimes the updates come late,” Maier added. “At the end of the day, I’m hardwired to go after the bad guy first — the storytelling comes second.”

Maier also thanked Richard Isom for assisting deputies with the safe disposal of confiscated cannabis.
