Police investigate 2 shootings in Herrin

HERRIN, Ill. (KBSI) – The Herrin Police Department is investigating after two homes were shot at in the same day.

Around 1:35 a.m. on July 3, the Herrin Police Department responded to the 600 block of S 12th Street for a shots fired call. Officers arrived on scene and made contact with the residents of the house. During the course of the investigation, they found that the house was struck by a single round that entered the front of the home. All occupants of the home were uninjured. The scene is still under investigation.

A separate incident also July 3, at 11:05 a.m. the Herrin Police Department responded to the 700 block of W. Tyler Street in Herrin for a report of the house being shot. Officers arrived and spoke with residents. Witnesses say a grey Dodge Avenger was seen leaving the scene after someone fired multiple rounds into the home. No occupants of the house were injured in the shooting.

Based off the description of the vehicle and witness testimony, a suspect vehicle was located at a hom on W. Oak St. Herrin shortly after. As the officer began to initiate contact with the home where the car was located, police say multiple males and females left the residence on foot.

Herrin officers as well as assisting Williamson County Sheriffs’ deputies set a perimeter around the area that the subjects had ran from.

Multiple people  have since been identified that are believed to be involved.

Herrin police say they now believe the shooting incidents are related. They believe both shootings are contained incidents to all parties involved and that there is no threat to the general public at this time.
