Shots fired damage residence on South Beveridge Street in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Police are investigating a report of shots fired that damaged a residence late Tuesday on the city’s south side, authorities said.

City of Carbondale police officers responded at about 9:22 p.m. Dec. 24, 2025, to the 500 block of South Beveridge Street. Investigators determined a residence sustained damage consistent with bullet strikes. No injuries were reported.

Police said information gathered during the investigation indicates the incident stemmed from a personal dispute and is not believed to be a random act.

“The Carbondale Police Department remains committed to partnering with the community to address gun violence,” Chief Anthony Copeland said in a statement. “Residents in the area should be assured that police resources are being directed toward these incidents, and they are not being taken lightly.”

The City of Carbondale Police Department is asking residents in the area who have home video security systems and were unable to speak with officers at the time to review footage from the reported time frame.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
