Sikeston awards $1 million contract for street improvements

SIKESTON, Mo., (KBSI) — The Sikeston City Council awarded a more than $1 million contract for the city’s fiscal year 2027 Street Improvement Plan during its meeting last week.

Apex Paving Co. received the $1,003,181.36 contract, which includes resurfacing, reconstruction and drainage improvements across the city.

Planned projects include:

  • Smith Avenue from Ingram Road to North Main Street
  • West Wakefield Avenue from the Ditch No. 4 bridge to 1,760 feet east
  • The intersection of New Madrid Avenue and North Street
  • Kentucky Avenue, including the bridge from St. John’s Street to Broadway Avenue
  • Alexander Avenue from Murray Lane to the dead end
  • Virginia Street from Pine Street to Ingram Road
  • William and Jackson streets from Jaycee Avenue to Malcolm Avenue
  • Powers Avenue from Wakefield Avenue to Allen Boulevard

The Powers Avenue project will also include stormwater drainage improvements at the intersection of Kramer and Powers avenues. The New Madrid Avenue and North Street project will include intersection and drainage reconstruction.

City officials said information about construction locations and schedules will be posted on Sikeston’s website and social media pages as work progresses.
