Sikeston BMU to smoke test sanitary sewers

SIKESTON, Mo. (KBSI) – If you see smoke coming from the sewer in Sikeston Thursday or Friday, don’t be alarmed.

Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities workers are out Thursday morning and Friday smoke testing their sanitary sewer around Holmes Drive to N. West Street and David Drive to Salcedo Road.

Don’t be alarmed if you see smoke coming from a home’s gutters, roof plumbing vents or even attic vents during the testing. BMU is forcing non-toxic, non-staining and odorless smoke through their sanitary sewer pipes.

This allows BMU to detect where smoke is escaping to identify if there are cracks in pipes, collapsed lines or other problems in the sewer system.

Anyone with questions regarding the smoke testing can contact BMU at customerservice@sbmu.net or 573-471-3328.
