Sikeston High School Field House now has metal detectors at entrance
SIKESTON, Mo. (KBSI) – Two metal detectors were installed at the entrance to Sikeston Field House last week, which coincides with the SEMO Conference Boys Basketball Tournament taking place at the field house this week.
Sgt. Tyler Rowe with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety said the timing of these safety measures couldn’t have been better.
“No better time to implement them than at the beginning of this basketball season when the field house is going to be used at its utmost and possibly max capacity,” he said.
The funds for these metal detectors were acquired through a grant and are an addition to a renovation project that includes a new floor and new lobby.
“It’s hard to sometimes change something, change a routine in the middle of the season, but we knew this remodel was coming last year, so when it really started at the end of the school,” Rowe said.
And Rowe reminds visitors that these metal detectors are not meant to be a deterrent, but rather just a measure to make the experience safer.
“It’s not to deter people from coming. It’s to show them that we want a safe and secure place,” he said. “We want to create an environment that’s safe for all.”
