Sikeston Honors Veterans Banner Project accepting applications

SIKESTON, Mo., (KBSI) — The Sikeston Tourism Department, Sikeston Parks and Recreation, and the Sikeston Veterans Park Committee are inviting residents to honor local veterans and active-duty service members through the Sikeston Honors Veterans Banner Project.

The program allows community members to sponsor banners recognizing veterans or active-duty military personnel from the Sikeston area. The banners are displayed on light posts at Veterans Park for approximately one year beginning on Veterans Day. After the display period ends, each banner is retired and returned to the applicant.

Each banner includes a QR code linking to a webpage featuring the veteran’s photo and military history. Veterans from all branches of service are eligible to be honored.

To apply for the next lottery drawing, residents can fill out an online form or pick up an application at the Sikeston Tourism office, located at 215 N. New Madrid St. Applicants who are not selected will remain eligible for future drawings. Selected applicants will be contacted for the $115 banner fee and any additional details needed.

Funding for the project is provided by the Sikeston Veterans Park Committee, Sikeston Parks and Recreation, Sikeston Tourism, the Missouri Humanities Grant, and local sponsors.

Applications are accepted year-round, with the annual lottery drawing held each September for the upcoming year.
