Sikeston R-6 School District celebrates new Lee Hunter Elementary school building

SIKESTON, Mo (KBSI) – It’s been two years in the making but elementary students and teachers at Lee Hunter elementary now have a new building to call home.

The school Sikeston R-6 School District public school board, parents, and students participated in the ribbon cutting of the new building Tuesday night. They saw how the school board keeps the tradition of Lee Hunter Elementary intact with this new building.

Superintendent of Sikeston Public Schools Shannon Holifield says keeping the history of the previous building was important for the community.

“The new school was built exactly where the old school was torn down, we also did some things like save the letters from the original building and those are actually the letters that are out on the front of the building as well as the flagpole,” said Holifield.

The first day of school in the new building is Tuesday, August 23.
