SIU Carbondale to hold Saluki Remembrance Day ceremony

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Southern Illinois University Carbondale will honor the memories of 10 faculty, staff, and students who passed away during the 2024-2025 academic year.

The inaugural Saluki Remembrance Day ceremony will take place on April 16 at 1 p.m. in the Student Center Ballrooms.

The event will feature:

Remarks by Chancellor Austin A. Lane and Provost Sheryl Tucker
A poem written by Professor Allison Joseph
Reading of the names of the deceased
Presentation of a memorial item to families
Moment of silence
Music by the Southern Brass quintet

Counselors will be available to provide support.

The ceremony is open to the SIU community and families of the deceased.
