SIU to host 9/11 stair climb tribute

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Southern Illinois University Carbondale will commemorate the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with a stair climb event on Sept. 11.

The 9/11 Saluki Stair Climb at the Banterra Center will feature a simulated 110-floor stair climb, representing the World Trade Center twin towers.

Participants can register individually or as a team and may choose to walk 2 miles around the concourse instead.

The event, which begins at 6 a.m., honors first responders, military members and civilians who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks and the War on Terror.

Registration and a waiver are required for the free event.
