CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) — Southern Illinois University Carbondale and the SIU Foundation will host a grand opening ceremony for the Tedrick Welcome Center on May 1.

The event is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. at the facility, located at 1264 Lincoln Drive. A public open house will follow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 2.

The 44,000-square-foot building, located at the university’s main entrance off U.S. 51, will serve as the home of the SIU Foundation and include a 14,000-square-foot welcome center for campus tours, events and alumni and donor activities.

University officials said the project was funded entirely through the SIU Foundation, including a $6 million gift from alumni Roger and Sally Tedrick, and did not use taxpayer dollars, tuition revenue or state funds.
