Snow causing more power outages in Perry County

PERRY COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – Snow caused more power outages Friday afternoon in Perry County.

At 3:30 p.M. Friday, Citizens Electric reported three substations down due to the snow and ice that has been causing power outages throughout Perry County and into the northern part of Cape County. With the power outages that began with Sunday’s ice storm, there are people in Perry County who have gone days without power, and after having it restored, some have lost it again in less than 24 hours.

Mark Hotop is one of those residents.

“It’s just aggravating,” he said, “only having power back for a little bit and then losing it again.”

Hotop said he’s been without power for most of the week. He’s been using his vehicle to charge his phone and has to use his outdoor grill to cook.

“To stay warm out here I got some propane heaters and that’s just — every day I have to go get propane to keep them going,” he said.

Perry County Sheriff Jason Klaus said Citizens Electric is working hard to get the power back on.

“We believe in Citizens Electric,” he said. “Their contractors are doing everything they can, and have been doing a great job all week long to restore the power but we just still want to give them the time to identify and troubleshoot those areas.”
