Some area schools are closed for the day in response to school threats

MISSOURI(KBSI) – Many local school districts have closed school for the day due to social media threats that have been circulating nationwide.
Jackson R-2 Schools are closed for the day.
Jackson Police Department posted this statement on their Facebook page
-The Jackson Police Department is currently investigating a potential threat that has been circulating on social media platforms. We are working closely with the Jackson R2 Public School District to keep them informed and ensure the safety of our students and staff. Additionally, we have been informed by Courage2Report about hoax threats circulating nationwide. While many of these threats are unfounded, we are committed to investigating every report to ensure the safety of our community.
School leaders have also decided to cancel all home sporting events on both Friday and Saturday.
In an email Cape Central High School stated they also received a direct threat but because of their added security measures this year they feel it is safe for students to attend class today.
Poplar Bluff Schools and Scott City R-1 schools received threats this week and according to the school districts the threats were unfounded and school is in session today.
Sikeston Public schools shared via social media that they received a direct threat, and they located the student accused of making the threat and conducted a search.
They are in session today and feel there is no longer a direct threat to the school.
