Some southern Illinois counties reporting elevated COVID-19 transmission level

(KBSI) – As you gather with your loved ones this holiday season, the Southern 7 Health Department wants to reminds Illinoisans that some counties are reporting an elevated transmission level for COVID-19.

Johnson and Massac counties are reporting high levels while Pope and Pulaski are reporting medium levels.

Shawnna Rhine with the Southern 7 Health Department says an increase in positive cases over the holidays is not unusual.

“We just want people to realise that you’re coming upon a holiday where you might be dealing and seeing family and friends that you’ve not seen in a long time. You might not be aware of some of those underlying health conditions they have. So it’s important to make sure that you continue to follow the safety measures that were put in place during COVID as much as you can. If you’ve not received your vaccine or your booster, go ahead and do so.”

If you are indoors spending time with others, Rhine recommends to keep your distance from them, wear a mask and open windows for ventilation.
