Southeast Missouri Job Olympics set for Feb. 28 at Jackson Civic Center

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – High school students from across the region will gather at the Jackson Civic Center on Feb. 28 for the Southeast Missouri Job Olympics.

Students from area schools, including Jackson R-2, Cape Girardeau Public Schools, Oak Ridge, Perryville, Delta and Park View State School, will participate in events that simulate real-life job scenarios, such as stocking shelves, sorting laundry and cleaning buildings.

The competition aims to promote transition and employability skills for students with diverse abilities. Local teachers, community members and business leaders will judge and time the students.

The event relies on 50 volunteers from the region, providing students with one-on-one support and connections with community members.

“It’s wonderful to see students from across the area engage in a competition that prepares them for future careers and highlights their strengths,” said Meredith Adkission, Director of Special Education for the Jackson R-2 School District.

This marks the second year for the Southeast Missouri Job Olympics, which has been held in the area for five years.
