Southeast Missouri State University hosts 50th Annual Regional National History Day competition

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Southeast Missouri State University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences will host the 50th annual regional National History Day competition on March 7.
The event, which draws hundreds of high school students from across the region, challenges participants to research historical topics and present their findings in various formats.
This year’s theme, “Rights and Responsibilities,” encourages students to explore the balance between individual rights and societal responsibilities.
Winners of the regional competition will advance to the state competition in Columbia, Missouri, in April, with the possibility of progressing to the national competition at the University of Maryland, College Park, in June.
The competition will feature various categories, including exhibits, performances, documentaries, websites and papers. Awards will be presented in several categories, including historic preservation, regional history and military history.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon in the University Center, with an award ceremony at 1 p.m. in the Academic Hall Auditorium.
