Southeast Missouri State University looking to the next 150 years

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Southeast Missouri State University is gearing up and getting ready for the next 150 years.

On October 13, University President Dr. Carlos Vargas gave an announcement to the alumni and community that the university would be getting a new wave of advancement.

“We are formally launching today the public face of the largest comprehensive fund-raising campaign in our history, our goal for this campaign is $60 million,” said Vargas.

Dr. Vargas said the university has already met their goal up to 64%.

But what are the plans for this money?

Vice President for University Advancement Wendell Snodgrass says leaders at the university began to realize it was time to transform moving forward.

“We have four specific pillars of the campaign which are academics, facilities, technology, and athletics, and those are the pillars that we’ll be focused on within this campaign to help us transform our campus,” he said.

Snodgrass says the university is looking for technological advancement and modernism in this transition, to better help set themselves apart going into the next 150 years.

“It’s going to affect our whole region but specifically it’s going to affect our students, faculty and staff, and help them advance our mission,” said Snodgrass.
