Southeast Missouri State University professor receives prestigious research award

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Dr. Lucas Kirschman, an assistant professor of biology at Southeast Missouri State University, has received a 2021-2023 Royal Entomological Society Journal Award for his research in ecological immunology.
Kirschman’s article, published in Physiological Entomology, explored the immune responses of wolf spiders during different reproductive stages.
He was one of two winners selected for the award, which recognizes excellence in entomological research.
Kirschman, who combines immunology and ecology in his work, said the recognition is meaningful personally and professionally.
He is dedicated to teaching and mentoring students, and encourages those interested in research to get involved.
Kirschman’s graduate student, Hannah McKinnon Reish, praised his mentorship and research opportunities.
